I totally agree, Chris. As noted (please do check out my other content — on both Medium and YouTube), I am genuinely in love with my new 8GB M1 MacBook Air and think it’s revolutionary. These are incredibly exciting times. I just think Apple is placing its focus on stuff that fails to deliver the tangible, day-to-day benefits and excitement you rightly note that we should all be enjoying.

I can’t live in the now with LiDAR, for instance, because it’s meaningless for me. It’s completely intangible. The introduction of retina screens was tangible, and exciting, as was Face ID and the moment the Plus-sized phones were introduced. That pace of change should continue, in my book; we’re asked to invest a lot of money in these devices and new payment plans are geared towards more regular upgrades.

I’m just a little bit less excited by Apple these days — that’s all. But maybe that’s because we’re living in such a mature tech market, as you point out.
