Thanks for getting involved, Chris. I largely agree with you, but I should perhaps clarify that I’m actually very excited about the M-future, and I actually think it’s a far more exciting future than that of the iPhone, iPad and devices like the HomePod.

In fact, I talked about this in my recent HomePod mini vs Nest Audio video. The issue with Apple (and this is definitely a separate topic to this particular blog) and the other big tech brands is that there are increasingly fewer differentiating features to get excited about. I guess that might be inevitable as time draws on and technology becomes more commoditised. But it’s a shame.

I love increased stability — it’s more important than an “exciting” new feature, but that in itself is a bit depressing. Excitement is important in all walks of life.

LiDAR is deeply uninteresting from my perspective, and AR has a long way to go to breach its current ‘gimmick-your-mum-doesn’t-know-about’ phase. I’m not convinced it ever will.

Don’t get me wrong — I want the boring, continual iterations to continue, but I also want something exciting to open on Christmas morning once again — I’m not convinced “whinging” about that is a bad thing. These companies need to be pushed to excite us as well as make our lives more convenient.
