Thanks for the detailed response, Damien, and for spending so long engaging with my content (this is extremely rare).
You hit the nail on the head right at the end — I’m a storyteller, not an analyst. Although I’m several football pitches from his talent and reach, I’m massively inspired by Jeremy Clarkson. He openly admits that he “doesn’t know how cars work”, but can tell you how they feel. That’s enough for me, but it won’t be enough for others.
I aim to improve my content with every word written on here, and every minute recorded for YouTube, but it will always head in this direction — I’m afraid you’ll never read or watch coverage from me that features the research you’re suggesting (although I appreciate the guidance). It just isn’t me, and I don’t believe I’m misinforming my audience by avoiding it — they have the choice to (and indeed should) further their research beyond my opinion before spending their money.
Lastly, I must strongly disagree with you on one point. I had to re-read “everyone is not entitled to their opinion” a couple of times. Going back to the Clarkson analogy, his opinion on a performance car is just as valuable as someone’s who understands how the limited slip differential works. It depends entirely on the audience. I’d find Clarkson’s appraisal of that car entertaining and enjoyable to read — it’d be capable of tempting me to part with tens of thousands of pounds. But I’d find the expert’s opinion dull. Years of research and experience don’t always make for relevant or interesting opinions. As someone who believes strongly in free speech and creative expression, your stance on this really surprises me — particularly when you are clearly very well educated.
Maybe I’ve grabbed the wrong end of the proverbial, but that really doesn’t resonate well with me at all I’m afraid. And the fact that all opinions aren’t equal is what makes the world such a rich, interesting, wonderful place. Crikey — can you imagine what it would be like if every article on the M1 Max GPU was identically researched?! Pass me the snooze mask.
Thanks again for reading and engaging, Damien.
