Thanks for the reply, Tony.
On the subject of boosts, I'm afraid I have no idea and have never received any meaningful feedback on that (plus, by its nature, the boosting program just 'happens' if you're on the receiving end of it). Maybe the curation team could shed some light on that.
All of my stories (bar very few exceptions) used to be chosen for distribution. When the Boost system was introduced, my views, reads, and - most importantly, given the recent MPP changes - engagement fell off a cliff. Regular readers stopped responding and a few noted that my stories were missing from their feed.
As for 'prolific', that was a poor choice of words on my part. What I meant was 'popular' (I'm just too British to use that term without wanting to slap myself). Tech moves fast and there is always something to talk about; is Medium no longer a platform for that kind of content and community discussion?
I've invested so much time into Medium, Tony, not just as a writer, but also in terms of spreading the good word about it and bringing not just readers but writers to the platform. I created an entire Academy around Medium earlier this year which has a bustling cohort of aspiring writers.
I will give this some time, but if my audience continues to disappear and the rewards evaporate, what should I do? I'm not willing to write emotive stories for the sake of garnering engagement. From the looks of the replies to my original comment, I'm not alone.
